Featured Quilter

I have been asked to be the featured quilter at the Quilters by the Sea quilt show this weekend.  I’m excited but a little intimated.  Today is set-up day.  I’m very excited and not entirely sure what to display but here is a stack ready to take with me this afternoon.

I’m sure I’ll figure it out with the help of my granddaughter Emily.  If I need more I can do that tomorrow morning before the show opens.

Design Wall Monday–July 27, 2015

I like to make pillow shams to go with my bed quilts.  In this case I had three log cabin blocks left over from making my Amish with a Twist bed sized quilt.  All I had to do is make one more block, sew them together and add some borders.

That was the easy part.  Now I need to quilt them to mimic the quilting that Russ did on my actual quilt. 

I’ve made the back for the shams.  I’ve made the binding for the shams.  I’ve done everything I can think of except start the actual quilting.  I’m slowly working up the nerve to start.

Design Wall Monday–July 20, 2015

I spent last week with a large group of friends in Las Vegas sewing, visiting and having a wonderful time.  One of the projects I worked on is my One Block Wonder.  Here it is up on my design wall.

I think I like it just the way it is and now the big job of sewing it together begins.  This picture doesn’t show it but I found the perfect match to the burgundy color.  I’m planning on using it set in 120 degree wedges on each side and then a small border at the top and bottom.  The plan is for this to hang horizontally in my dining room once it’s finished.

Skirt No. 10 (or maybe 11)

I actually think I skipped showing one but I’ll have to go back and check. 

So here’s my story with this one and I’m sticking to it.  I went to the store the other day and they had the style of T-shirts I like.  I probably didn’t need any but what the heck, it doesn’t hurt to look.  Sure enough I found a couple of them marked down to $3.00.  $3.00, can you believe it?  How could I not buy a yellow and pinkish/fuchsia T-shirt for $3.00 each?  The only problem is……….other than the white skirt I made, I didn’t have a skirt to go with the pinkish/fuchsia shirt.  Now I ask you what’s a girl to do? 

Sooooooo yesterday by BFF Marilyn and I went to M & L fabric store.  BTW they’re having a 20% off sale on everything in the store.  Without having to try very hard I found what looked to me to be the perfect fabric to go with my new $3.00 T-shirt.  I’m getting pretty good at making them so I spent a little bit of time this morning whipping this one together and yes it does have pockets and yes it is very, very cute. 

I still have more in the pipe line so stay tuned.

Design Wall Monday–July 6, 2015

Not much to show but here is my design wall in it’s entirety. 

Kind of sad but that’s exactly what’s up there.  The log cabin blocks in the center are leftovers from my Amish with a Twist quilt.  I need to make one more dark/light so that I can make pillow shams to go with my quilt.

A Patriotic Skirt for the 4th of July (#9)

You just knew I had to do it. While digging around in my fabric stash I found the perfect fabric for a 4th of July skirt.  Everyone needs a 4th of July skirt, don’t they?  It doesn’t scream red, white and blue but it’s there. 

Here’s a close-up of the fabric.

As you can see it’s not too over the top but it will look cute with a red T-shirt and red sandals.

Number 8’s White!

I realized that I have several T-shirts that don’t go with anything but jeans, black pants or white pants.  So what’s a person to do?  Yup, you guessed it I made a plain white skirt. 

Plain but practical.  And of course I added pockets to the side seams.  Wait until you see what I made to wear tomorrow.

What? Another Skirt? #7 and still counting…….

I’m just loving these and still have several in the pipeline. 

I received a funny comment from Jan Macy asking me if I had to buy new hangers.  Sure enough, I did…….but not enough.  Guess I’ll have to go back and buy a few more before this is over. 

This skirt is a little different.  Same pattern and again added pockets but it’s made out of a Rayon Batik and is nice and flowy (is that a word?).  I purchased the fabric at Fabric Depot in Portland and at the time my DIL Maureen said it’s my dressy skirt.  LOL!

So here it is, my dressy skirt made out of flowy Rayon Batik.

Skirt No. 6

I wore this one yesterday with a lime green T-shirt.

 

This is a Tula Pink fabric.  It has side pockets set in to the side seams.  Love the pockets that I’ve added to the pattern.
